Manual handling - a challenge for care

Manual handling is one of the commonest causes of injury in the care sector, for both staff and service users.

For this reason we like the look of the service from MHAPS based on their Manual Handling Action Planning System.  The system was developed secifically to reduce the risk of injury during moving and handling interventions.  MHAPS gives staff immediate access to critical risk assessment information, using easily-recognisable symbols, showing how to safely carry out any moving and handling activity.

Being highly visual MHAPS does not rely on the person having English as a first language or even literacy to be understood.

MHAPS supports staff in their daily working life, improves continuity of care for residents/patients and shows that managers have taken steps to manage the risks.
